George Foreman 5-Serving Submersible Grill with Removable Plates
We built this grill for families who want restaurant-quality results without the restaurant-sized cleanup. The 5-serving cooking surface delivers 75 square inches of nonstick grilling space—enough for five burgers, chicken breasts, or veggie kabobs in one batch. What sets this model apart is the fully submersible design: once you remove the plates, you can dunk the entire base in your sink or dishwasher.

The george foreman submersible grill takes cleanup from chore to afterthought. Unlike sealed-plate models, this grill lets you pop out both cooking plates in under ten seconds—no tools, no fuss. Once the plates are removed, the grill body itself can go straight into a sink full of soapy water or onto the top rack of your dishwasher.

Cooking surface size and capacity
At 75 square inches, this grill handles five quarter-pound burger patties, five boneless chicken thighs, or ten slices of bacon laid flat. We designed the plate dimensions—roughly 9 by 8.5 inches—to match the footprint of a standard dinner plate, so you can visualize how much food fits before you start cooking.
The adjustable floating hinge accommodates everything from thin-sliced vegetables to two-inch ribeyes. When you close the lid, the upper plate settles onto your food rather than crushing it, which means even contact without squeezing out moisture. If you’re grilling a mix of thick and thin items—say, chicken breasts and asparagus—the hinge adjusts independently across the plate, so each piece gets the same sear.

Heating performance and temperature control
The 1200-watt dual heating element delivers consistent heat across both plates in about five minutes. We embed the heating coils directly beneath the nonstick surface, which eliminates cold spots and ensures the edges cook as evenly as the center.
There’s no temperature dial on this model—it heats to a fixed 400°F, which we’ve found is the sweet spot for searing protein without burning delicate items like fish or fruit. The indicator light glows red during preheat and switches to green once the grill is ready. If you open the lid mid-cook, the light turns red again until the plates recover their temperature, so you’ll know exactly when to add your next batch.

Your questions about the 5-serving submersible grill
You can wash the removable cooking plates and the drip tray in the dishwasher. The grill body itself—once the plates are removed—is submersible, meaning you can place it in a sink full of water and scrub it by hand. We don’t recommend putting the entire grill body in a dishwasher because the heating element housing is best hand-washed to preserve the electrical components.
Let the grill cool for at least ten minutes after cooking. Press the plate-release tabs on both sides of the grill—one tab per plate. Lift each plate straight up and out of the grill body. The tabs require only light thumb pressure, and the plates have handles molded into the edges for a secure grip.
The submersible grill features removable plates that you can wash separately, plus a grill body that can be submerged in water once the plates are out. Classic models have sealed plates that are part of the grill housing, so you wipe them clean in place. Both share the same sloped fat-draining design and nonstick coating.
Yes. The floating hinge adjusts automatically to the thickness of your food. When you close the lid, the upper plate rests on top of whatever you’re cooking without pressing down hard. This means a two-inch steak gets full contact on both sides, and a half-inch fillet won’t get crushed.
The grill preheats in about five minutes when plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet. The indicator light glows red during preheat and switches to green once the plates reach cooking temperature. If you open the lid during cooking, the light turns red again until the grill recovers its heat.
You can, but we recommend thawing meat and vegetables first for even cooking. Frozen food releases a lot of moisture, which can pool on the plates and create steam instead of a sear. If you do cook from frozen, add a few extra minutes to your cook time and expect more liquid in the drip tray.
Our George Tough nonstick coating is PFOA-free and safe for cooking even if minor scratches appear over time. To prevent scratches, use silicone, wood, or plastic utensils instead of metal. If the coating becomes heavily worn after extended use, replacement plates are available through our customer service team.
